You need Pro, a saved project Website, and access to that website domain’s DNS settings. Maker’s HQ connects a subdomain of the saved website, such as community.example.com.

Connect the address

  1. Open Settings → Public address → Connect domain.
  2. Enter the subdomain prefix, such as community. The app displays the resulting address.
  3. Choose Connect domain to prepare the connection.
  4. If automatic DNS setup is available, choose Set up DNS automatically, review the provider’s proposed changes, and approve them.
  5. Otherwise, add the exact records displayed by Maker’s HQ in your DNS provider.
  6. Return to setup and choose Check again. Keep using the platform link while verification completes.

Manual DNS setup

Copy each record’s Type, Name, and Value from your current setup. Values are unique to your connection; do not copy records from another project or a screenshot.
  • Use DNS only for the CNAME record. Turn off proxying, including Cloudflare’s orange-cloud proxy.
  • Keep the TXT records. The ownership record is _makershq.<community-hostname> with the exact makershq-domain= proof value displayed in the app. A separate provider verification TXT may also be required.
  • Names in the app are full hostnames. If your provider automatically appends example.com, enter only the portion before it.
Use manual DNS setup for now; automatic setup is not yet available.

Confirm it works

Wait for Connected, then open the public links. Feature requests use /ideas and release notes use /release on a custom domain. DNS being present alone does not establish that ownership and HTTPS are ready. If verification does not complete, follow domain troubleshooting.

Disconnect or change domains

Open Manage domain → Disconnect. Your community content is preserved and visitors can use the Maker’s HQ links. Remove the exact DNS records listed after disconnection from your DNS provider. To connect a different website domain, disconnect the old connection before changing the saved Website. If Pro ends, the saved setup is retained but the custom domain is paused. Restore Pro and allow verification to finish, or share your platform links. Billing and downgrade behavior.
